The techniques and preparative procedures of the contractile protein chemist are becoming increasingly important to investigators whose interests do not involve the molecular basis for contraction in striated muscle. The interest in smooth muscle contraction has grown tremendously over the past ten years. The need for a coherent treatment of the experimental methods used for the investigation of the contractile and cytoskeletal proteins and of their interactions has been evident for some time. This book is designed to fill that need. The book provides a unified representation of the current techniques used by contractile-cytoskeletal protein chemists.
