Văn Miếu - Quốc Tử Giám (Temple of Literature - National University for the Training of Royal Mandarins) is one of the most significant and representative historical and cultural sites of Hà Nội, capital city of Việt Nam. Established in 1070, Văn Miếu was designed as both a centre for the vvorship of Confucius and a school for crown princes. The University itselí {Quốc Tử Giám) was established in 1076. During its 700 years of operation this educational institution tumed out thousands of talented civil servants, including such important personalities as historian Ngô Sĩ Liên, mathematician Lương Thế Vinh, erudite scholar Lê Qúy Đôn, and statesman and diplomat Ngô Thì Nhậm.
